This Life in the Hive add on highlights the effects of high mite loads in a beehive. Smaller, deformed bees with twisted and damaged wings indicate the presence of Deformed Wing Virus. Each bee model has a parasitic varroa mite attached. The brood cells are dark in color, in contrast to fresh new comb. magnetic mite frass is included to show signs indicating the presence of varroa mites. This add on includes two used comb cells, a Deformed Wing Virus bee, and four magnetic mite frass attachments.
This disease education pack will not fit into the standard Life in the Hive carrying case, as it is not intended for general public education–rather, it should be used to educate new and second year beekeepers. Your DWV bee will be unique to you and may vary slightly from the pictures. Varroa placement is random, but matches locations that these deadly mites usually travel on honey bees.
